The API 560 Standard is produced by the American Petroleum Institute and specifies the requirements and recommendations for fired heaters within refineries.
The aspects covered include design, materials, fabrication, inspection, testing, preparation for shipment, and erection of fired heaters, air preheaters (APHs), fans, and burners for general refinery service.
The standard is used internationally throughout industry and often serves as a baseline for private oil company fired heater and furnace specifications.
It is important to note that the document does not apply to the design of steam reformers or pyrolysis furnaces.
